1st Year University, 2004

I found both the plates and the prints to these two pieces from my University days back in Falmouth. I would like to try print making again, as my style of drawing could make a good relationship with print making. The Portrait above is an etching, the Abstract Landscape was done using acid.

"'New Directions"

These are a number of developmental drawings or attempts, as a change to my characters designs with no backgrounds.  The landscape Artist is still a popular direction on the Isle of Man, but I have been thinking of taking inspiration of the islands landscape and adding a twist, with Bison, wild animals and people traveling through the lands. So to get going, I always exercise this with a number of examples of my own. 70% of the time I make gestural lines inside a rough box and take it from there... lets see where this goes!

'WOSAT' Open Studios

Illustrated Map of Peel, Isle of Man. (Pen & Ink / Watercolour)

After a few thumbnails and concepts in my sketchbook, I began to Illustrate the map over the weekend, to be inserted into the WOSAT Trail Guide, also including a poster of the event. I'll be attending this event at the 'Isle Gallery', Tynwald Mills, St. Johns, selling the prints, along with my own collection of work. My approach was listing the main features of Peel in a decipherable and simple way to both children and adults. And I hope it's worked.

The Herin-Gull is called; 'Dougy'

'Spice Up'

I have decided  to showcase more of my drawings and painting that I keep with me in my sketchbooks and on canvas in 'Studio 3'. Other than commission or exhibitions I thought it would be more interesting for you to know the development of my work and bits and pieces that I do purely for myself.

Charity Christmas Stall

(Tom Egan's & Rachael Ansell's Christmas Stall)

Rachael: Fabric Artist, Designer, Illustrator and Early Years Teacher.
Visit: www.paintparrot.co.uk

We presented a variety of cupcakes, ginger breads. drawings, paintings and fabric decorations and greeting cards. meeting a greeting the public face to face can be developing for your work in some cases, Rachael Ansell was so successful I think she may be addicted to this. I advise anyone who is creative with fabric, paints or what ever material, to try this. Be wary of your pricing, its only pocket money at these gigs.

The stall was based in the Villa Marina, Main Hall, Douglas Isle of Man.
